Tonight there are a bunch of good shows; the way they time out, you can see one or two but not all three of them.

First up at 8pm is Emily Zuzik and her band at The Apple Store on 14th Street in Chelsea.  Emily has been on quite a roll lately; she just released her latest album, The Wild Joys of Living, wrote and sang the song The Low Hum on the latest Moby album, Destroyed, and is featured on the cover of Message of Love which is the theme song for the new NBC series Love Bites.  And this show is free.

Once Emily’s show is over, hop on the L Train at 14th Street and 8th Avenue and take it to Williamsburg.  There at The Gutter, one of two bowling alley / music venue combinations in that part of town, you’ll be able to see Israel Nash Gripka.  Israel’s latest album, Barn Doors and Concrete Floors is a wonderful straight ahead rock record.  Live, Israel will supply you with more than 100% of your required daily allowance of Neil Young / John Fogerty tinged music.

But if these two shows don’t time out for you, get yourself over to The Rockwood Music Hall at 9pm and catch Melody Kills.  That’s the name under which Leslie Mendelson is playing these days, whether solo or with her band.  I’m not sure whether this is a band show or just Leslie and her guitarist/co-writer Steve McEwan.  But whatever configuration is playing tonight, you’ll get Leslie’s upbeat songs together with her marvelous singing and playing.

Emily Zuzik, The Apple Store,  401 W 14th Street at the corner of 9th Avenue (A, C or E Trains to 14th Street), 8pm, Free

Israel Nash Gripka, The Gutter, 200 North 14th Street between Wythe and Berry Streets in Williamsburg-Greenpoint (G Train to Nassau Avenue or L Train to Bedford Avenue), doors 9pm (Israel goes on second, probably after 10pm) $5

Melody Kills (Leslie Mendelson), Rockwood Music Hall, 196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit) 9pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the band is highly encouraged)
